Cross-border or unscheduled care, patient-mediated exchange, continuity-of-care summaries, and bounded clinical or research handoffs that need a named minimum-content contract.

A concrete example

An EHR generates a validated FHIR document Bundle containing the IPS Composition, patient, author, provenance, and required summary sections, then tests national extensions and receiving-system behavior separately.

Why it matters: A consistent summary improves retrieval and feature alignment, but omission rules, stale content, source provenance, reconciliation quality, and summarization bias can materially affect models.

Constrains FHIR R4 resources and uses terminology such as SNOMED CT, LOINC, and UCUM; ISO 27269 defines the abstract core dataset while the HL7 IG provides computable profiles and examples.

Start with one bounded handoff. Pin, test, and review it before scaling.
