A concrete example
A study protocol documents why the selected RWD source can measure exposure, outcomes, covariates, follow-up, and key subgroups, then pre-specifies validation, bias analyses, missing-data handling, sensitivity analyses, and reporting.
Why it matters: Explicit source-suitability, validation, and bias controls improve trustworthy feature and label design, but model development, calibration, transportability, and human review remain separate work.

Test the main limitation
The guideline is focused on non-interventional safety assessment, not every effectiveness question, and conformance cannot make an inadequate source complete or remove unmeasured confounding.
Run one representative end-to-end pilot and record exactly where ICH M14 loses context, needs an extension, or depends on another standard.
Machine-readable output may still be unfit for analysis or ML.
Test the output for missing context, provenance, terminology alignment, time leakage, and the intended downstream decision. Explicit source-suitability, validation, and bias controls improve trustworthy feature and label design, but model development, calibration, transportability, and human review remain separate work.
